Assumptions, Gut Reactions and Common Sense
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
In this episode, we delve into the mistakes that can be made by making assumptions out there in the field. Everything from assuming that we received the correct information as a dispatcher or first responder from the person calling for help, to assuming we know where the road should be and that we have the correct address, to assuming the patient may have something they don’t or may have nothing wrong with them at all. In the field of EMS, we can’t assume. We need to use our common sense and play at the top of our game to make sure that all of our patients at any given scene get the care they need. There is a lot to juggle and we share some of the crazy and wacky stories where these assumptions could have made a difference and led to a loss of life, but thankfully, didn’t. Please note that we recorded this episode while wearing masks due to COVID-19 precautions amid the omicron wave and we apologize if the sound is a bit muffled.
